Split Pea with Ham Soup

Portion -  2 cups
Serves four - 2 cup servings

Ingredients

7 cups of fresh water

1 pound bag of Goya dry green split peas

1 Goya Chicken Bouillon Cube

1 - 6 oz Cumberland Gap 97% fat free ham steak diced into 1/4" cubes

1 cup finely grated carrots

1 small yellow onion, finely diced

1 bay leaf

salt to taste

pepper to taste

Directions

Pick peas to remove any sediment and then soak in 6 cups of water overnight. Drain and rinse peas

Simmer peas 2 to three hours, until the peas have completely dissolved. Stir frequently. Simmer longer if it takes longer for the peas to soften and dissolve. Add more water if necessary.

Once the peas are completely dissolved, add the diced ham and cook for another ½ hour.

Serving Suggestions

Serve with croutons if desired. Add additional calories for croutons.
